Detour
For SS27, Collina Strada is taking a Detour at Storm King Art Center, marking the first runway show ever presented at Storm King.
We wanted to make a show that wasn’t just hosted by a museum, but inspired by the way you experience one. I’ve always thought of clothing as a sculptural practice. Fabrics and materials move, stretch, collapse, grow and transform with the bodies that inhabit them. A garment can change the way you move through the world and in turn change your direction.
Detour is about immersing the clothes into the landscape. Bodies move through grass, steel, sky, sculpture, and each other. It’s about the paths we take, the paths we’re told to take, and what happens when you decide to go somewhere else. Getting a little lost. Trusting your instincts. Taking the long way because we were never very good at listening or following directions.
Reminding us you can always reinvent and embrace the metamorphosis. The path doesn’t have to be perfect or even make sense. You can make your own way as you go.
That’s kind of the whole point of Collina Strada.
In this collection you will see organza feathers, an abundance of ruffles, complex draping, and recycled sequins. I wanted to explore the idea of over-draping bottoms and creating volume in something that feels wearable. The collection pulls from the strange collision of medieval romance and modern rebellion — the fantasy of A Knight’s Tale mixed with punk, Y2K, and the very real chaos of figuring out who you want to be. Taking the romance of another time and reshaping it through our lens.
A huge thank you to everyone who made the journey here and everyone who has carried Collina Strada forward. Thank you for believing in the strange paths, and continuing to navigate the fringe with us.
